Frequently asked questions

What is a Greet?
A Greet should be different from a city tour, namely a personal exploration of the city with guests in a small group. We show Wiesbaden from a personal perspective, which can also include trips to the suburbs or the surrounding area. In addition, we are also interested in the background of our guests in order to create a friendly atmosphere.
How does the Greet referral system work?
When guests register on our website, we ask them to provide various details: contact information, group size (max. 6 people!), preferred date, language skills, special interests, etc. Based on this information, we inform the relevant Greeters about the request. As soon as a Greeter has responded, we send his or her contact details to the guest. It is then up to the guest to contact ‘his or her’ greeter. If no suitable greeter is available, we have to send the guest a rejection.
How do guests and greeters come together?
Once a Greeter has been found for a specific request, the guest receives the necessary contact information of the Greeter so that they can arrange the meeting point (date, time, address) by email. A copy of the email is sent to the central Wiesbaden Greeter address. From this point on, the guest and the Greeter are in contact exclusively with each other.
How big is a group?
All Greeters work on a voluntary basis and are committed to providing individual support to guests. For this reason, the maximum group size is six people. Only one group is formed per request, with a size of one to six people. The guests usually know each other.
Are there other Greeter destinations?
Yes – in almost 25 cities in Germany and in over 40 countries worldwide. You can find up-to-date information about the destinations here – Greeters in Germany and Greeters worldwide.
What is the role of a Greeter?
As a Greeter, you meet visitors to Wiesbaden and show them your very own personal Wiesbaden. You may also take guests to places that are not listed in any travel guide and show them lesser-known sights and attractions, streets, squares, small shops and restaurants that give our city or your neighbourhood its special flair. You show guests your Wiesbaden experience.
We are also interested in our guests’ backgrounds. This leads to enriching mutual exchanges.
What do I have to know about Wiesbaden if I want to become a Wiesbaden Greeter?
Most of us Wiesbaden Greeters are not expert city guides and we don’t necessarily have to have been born in this beautiful city. But we view this city with open eyes and are constantly learning new things about it. And we can pass this on to our guests. In other words, if you dare to invite friends to Wiesbaden and take them on a touraround the city, then you can do the same with other guests.
Do I need to speak a foreign language to be a Greeter?
Many guests speak German and would like to be greeted in our language. We can only greet other guests in a foreign language – mostly English, but also French or Spanish in some cases.
Therefore, proficiency in a foreign language is not mandatory, but it expands your scope and that of Wiesbaden Greeters in general.
How is payment arranged?
Greeters work on a voluntary basis and offer their services free of charge. But that doesn’t mean they don’t get anything in return: they get to meet people from all kinds of backgrounds, can improve their foreign language skills and may even make new friends.
Should guests nevertheless offer donations, these will be made available to Wiesbaden Greeters as a whole to cover expenses.
Who is interested in meeting a Greeter?
Well, of course, you don’t know that beforehand. Basically, they are people who are interested in taking a look behind the scenes, and those who, apart from the classic sights, are also interested in the locals and their daily lives. There are no age restrictions for a Greet – we welcome everyone!
Experience in other cities shows that guests who contact us are often familiar with the Greeter concept from their own city, from their own travels, or have received a tip from friends who may be Greeters themselves.
